Nico against childhood cancer was started in November 2015 in Ourense, after Nicolás Leal Rodríguez, the protagonist of our story, returned from his intervention at the La Paz Hospital in Madrid.

Being selected as one of the 12 animation studios to create an illustration for a calendar as part of the solidarity campaign for the Nico Against Childhood Cancer organization was a true honor. Any contribution that can be made to such causes is always appreciated.

Our work involved illustrating the fight against an aggressive cancer cell with chains of Vitronectin. We didn’t fully understand its significance, but we knew it symbolized the heroic struggle that, unfortunately, many children have to go through, and that’s how we wanted to portray it.

The movement is led by: Nico’s mother (Ángeles Leal Freire) and aunts (Beatriz and Patricia Leal Freire). As an action dependent on the NEN Association whose main objective is to finance research projects against childhood cancer, and more specifically solid tumors. In addition, we are a movement supported by the NEN Association.

My name is Nico. I am a child from Ourense who wants to share my story with you. Since I am sure that if you know it you will realize how important childhood cancer research is. That if up to now you had not considered collaborating it is simply because no one had told you how important your involvement was. At 9 months I was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma estIII. My family became very sad and nervous and began to investigate.

Childhood cancer is rare. As well as the lack of interest from the pharmaceutical industry. Developmental cancer represents less than 1% of adult cancer.
